Level 1: Personal assistants

Employees use AI tools to write, summarise and search. Individual productivity rises, but business processes don’t change and data often sits outside company control.

Level 2: Task automation

AI is attached to specific steps: classifying email, answering FAQs, extracting documents. Results are measurable, but each use case is a separate project.

Level 3: AI-native operations

AI agents run entire processes end to end, working alongside people on a shared platform. Data, knowledge and governance are reused, so every new use case ships faster than the last.

Moving from level 2 to 3

  • Choose a complete process instead of a task.
  • Build a shared platform instead of scattered tools.
  • Establish enterprise-level AI governance.

The biggest difference between levels isn’t technology — it’s how the organisation operates.
